i was just released from durham county jail and if you get in trouble and break the law dont go to that jail !!for one their cells are like iceboxes. if your blanket is ripped or too short than that the only thing you're gonna get. while i was in there i had six seizures but they took me downstairs to their infimary to watch over me then gave me some tyenol and sent me back to the pod. i've also seen a mentally ill man get slammed on the concrete floor for walking too close to a dentention officer. seen fellow employees feeling and rubbing each other up and down

My nephew is at the Guess Road Facility, 3900 Guess Road. I live in NYC, and would like to say hello to him, does he have any sort of phone priviliges. I would also like to send support through the mail.. Do i send it to the facility and put his name on it? Or is there a special post office box for inmates, to keep the business mail, seperate from the inmate populations mail? I will not be getting home for Christmas, and i would like to show my nephew support and love. Thanks.

My 17 year old step-daughter has made a few bad decisions in her life. Now she's in jail awaiting a court date for harassing phone calls. She is not a bad person, but she's emotionally disabled and has had a very rough life.

She's in the Durham County Detention Facility. If anyone works there, or has recent experience with their policies, I need a couple of questions answered. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone over the phone.

1. Can she have softcover books that are mailed straight from the vendor? Would amazon.com count, or does it have to be a "new" books only retailer?

2. Can she have magazines shipped straight from a vendor? She's only on a 4th grade reading level, but she enjoys her "Seventeen" and "Teen Cosmo" subscriptions I bought her to improve her reading skills.

3. Would she be allowed to have a notebook and something to write with, she's started writing a journal and I want her to keep up with it.

4. Is she allowed to have any food items?

5. Is there ANYTHING else I can take her to help her get through this?

In some ways, she needs this time to reflect on some of her decisions. In other ways, I want to help her cope just a little so that she comes out of this better, not hardened.

Please, any advice or information would be great!

Thanks!

1. no, books come from religious organizations, or from publishers approved by the detention facility.
2. yes, they must come from the publisher
3.she can order writing materials from commissary, SO PLEASE SEND HER ANY MONEY YOU CAN !!!!!!
4. she can order commissary twice a week, the forms are given out by the pod officer, and she has to make sure she submits them on time, to receive the food
5.PRAY, AND GET YOURSELF SOME SLEEP. WE AS MOTHERS WANT TO FIX THINGS(THIS IS OUR NATURE), THIS CAN BE A GOOD OR BAD EXPERIENCE, IT IS TOTALLY UP TO HER, AND THE TYPE OF SUPPORT YOU ARE WILLING TO GIVE HER. BE PATIENT, AND PRAY. WE ALL HAVE BEEN THROUGH SOME DIFFICULT TIMES, NOT AS DIFFICULT AS OTHERS, NEVERTHELESS THEY WERE DIFFICULT. ALLOW HER TO GROW, AND FACE HER ISSUSES....JUST BE THERE FOR HER

in general, yes, but they won't let you take some controlled substances like narcotics, even with a prescription
